Classic VN Tokimeki Memorial Gets Modern Remake

The game industtry is rife with remakes, remasters and rereleases of beloved old-school games, and that extends to visual novels. Classics like TsukihimeKimi ga Nozomu Eien and Katawa Shoujo have made comebacks of their own, and now it's the turn of seminal dating sim Tokimeki Memorial.

TokiMemo was first released by Konami in 1994 for the TurboGrafx-16. or PC Engine in other regions. It was known for its nonlinear narrative, a cast of 12 waifus you can date as a high school freshman, and its emphasis on the simulation part of a dating sim rather than the meet n' fuck vibe certain other ones go for. It was a huge success for Konami at the time, and later recieved an enhanced port called Tokimeki Memorial: Forever With You, which launched on the PS1, PC and Sega Saturn, and other systems over the years including the PSP. The original game had a number of sequels and spin-offs, including the Girls' Side subseries where you play as a female freshman and find yourself a husbando, but the original is set to finally shine again on a modern system.

The Forever With You version will recieve an update called Tokimeki Memorial: Forever With You Emotional. This version includes the extra content from the PS1/PC/Saturn version, alongside completely redrawn illustrations. There's still the option to play with the original game's classic pixel art style, so fans of the original should be satisfied. Check out the trailer here:

Tokimeki Memorial has never been hugely well-known outside Japan, and Forever With You Emotional is only set to be released for Switch in Japan sometime next year. Hopefully it gets a western release at some point too.
