The closure of beloved eroge studio Illusion was announced some time ago, and since then the emergence of the similarly named ILLGAMES with a spiritual successor to the kind of sex sim Illusion is known for, felt like a lewd phoenix being reborn from the ashes. However, maybe things aren't all as they seem wiht the new studio.

The studio formally ceased operations on the 18th of August, but just one day earlier, they tweeted a notice like a dying breath, saying: "Thank you for using ILLUSION. ILLUSION has no successor company. Please be aware of similar products." While it doesn't mention them by name, it's obvious to all that this is about ILLGAMES, which was reported to include former Illusion staff.

It's not known why Illusion decided to shut down, but some have speculated the company was dissolved to absolve them of debt or get around taxes. In those cases I guess it would make sense that they wouldn't want to associate with ILLGAMES, but I don't know, I think there may be more than meets the eye to this story. Either way, I think it's best for people not to pigeonhole ILLGAMES into being Illusion 2.0, but let them flourish and do they own thing and build a reputation of their own.
