Honey Select Devs Illusion Call it Quits
By Yung Namahage • 9 months ago

It's a sad day in the eroge community today as Illusion, one of the forerunners of 3D H-games, announced they're pulling down the shutters for good soon.

Since 1997, Illusion have pumped out plenty of polygonal porno games, ranging from straight sex sims to more high concept, plot-driven stuff, often releasing multiple titles a year. They were also behind the extremely controversial Battle Raper fighting game series and RapeLay, which is unfortunately exactly what it sounds like. But for now I'd like to draw attention to their very first game, Des Blood, which began a series of point-n-click/FPS/sex simulator games that lasted for six games until Des Blood VR (not an actual VR game) in 2003. Graphics had come a long way since then, but just look at Des Blood 1 in all its chunky glory. Obviously this video is censored on account of being on YouTube, but it's a work of art that needs preserving.

In more recent years, their newer games like Koikatsu Party and Honey Select were released outside Japan with official English translations. And instead of simply having "VR" in their games' titles like before, they released eroges that take advantage of current VR technology like VR Kanojo and Koikatsu Party VR

As popular as Koikatsu Party and Honey Select are, all things come to an end eventually. The official Illusion Twitter account posted "Development and sales of the game development brand "ILLUSION" will end on 8/18 (Fri.). Please see the following page for details. illusion.jp", and thanked fans for their support. The website elaborates that Illusion will be ending support for all their games, ceasing all pre-orders, terminating their social media and pulling their games from online stores, including Steam. That means if you want to see what the hype is about with their games, you better act fast.

Illusion haven't given an official reason as to why they're coming to an end, but what we do know is they'll be missed. Hopefully someone else steps up and fills the gap in the market with similarly high quality 3D sex sims that include powerful character creators.
