The Weird World of Sexy Unofficial Game Cover Art
By Yung Namahage • 1 year ago

A couple days ago, while looking up something on Google related to Resident Evil for my post about the new CG movie, I came across this interesting suggested search result:

Is that Lady Dimitrescu but modded with a regular-looking skin tone and sexy sweater? On an unofficial cover art of Resident Evil Village that doesn't even include the game? With an unofficial ESRB adult only certification? I couldn't believe my eyes. So I clicked it, it opened an eBay page and all my questions were answered with a resounding "lol yes".

I get alternate cover art. Games like BioShock Infinite and 2016's Doom came with reversible cover slips that had illustrations more representative of the game's vibe on the other side so people who weren't happy about the regular "guy with gun" covers could proudly display the games on their shelves with a bit more flair. But this isn't that. This is a whole industry of lewd aftermarket cover art, all sold by someone named 2piecesnackbox on eBay. So I thought I'd jump further down this rabbit hole and see what I could find. Here are some of the highlights:

As you can see, not all of 2piecesnackbox's covers are lewd, and there are an awful lot of Resident Evil ones. Some, like this Scott Pilgrim one, are copies of a limited run special edition of a game meant for people who own the regular edition but want to have a cover like the special edition. That I can understand, but I can't see the benefits of buying (stolen) horny artwork to put on your game sleeves in an age where most games are sold digitally. Who is 2piecesnackbox, though? According to GamesRadar, this is all a side hustle for some SoundCloud producer. We all gotta get that paper somehow, even if it's by selling paper with someone else's lewd art on it.

What do you guys make of this? Would you buy any of these cover arts? Let us know in the comments!
