So it turns out that One Piece live-action on Netflix that everyone was dreading was actually pretty decent. Sure, some parts have been changed or greatly shrunk down, but that's to be expected with any adapatation. And unlike what they did with Cowboy Bebop, One Piece stays more consistently in-line withthe spirit of the source material. That was no doubt due to the heavy involvement of series creator Eichiro Oda on the show; and following the end of the first season, Oda has a special messages for fans of the live-action.
Hiding behind his signature striped fish avatar and speaking through a transponder snail, Oda spoke about how he worked alongside Netflix to make the show a reality, and thanked the fans for enjoying the first season. Then he dropped the bombshell that Netflix have already greenlit a second season. He also teased a fan-favorite member of the Straw Hat Pirates that hasn't showed up in the series yet, so that's one thing to look forward to.
As Oda mentions, it'll take some time for Netflix to finish writing the series (which may not be too easy given the current writers' strike situation), and then there's the filming, post, marketing etc, before it's actually broadcast. Still, at least fans know that this is one show Netflix isn't about to cancel anytime soon. Hopefully they get Jamie Lee Curtis as Kureha.
