DLsite, the online purveyors of eroge we've spoken about in the past, have made yet another controversial decision that'll impact scores of western hentai enthusiasts. 

As if blocking access to an entire country wasn't enough, DLsite's parent company EISYS, Inc. posted an important update earlier this week, which read:

"Thank you very much for your continued patronage of this service.

From 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Visa and Mastercard will be temporarily suspended.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but if you are using a Visa or MasterCard credit card,
please use other payment services when purchasing.

We apologize for the sudden inconvenience,
and thank you for your understanding and cooperation."

They then updated the update a few days later, to confirm that all 3 major credit cards will no longer be accepted:

"We would like to inform you that from 18:30 on Thursday, April 4, 2024, the use of American Express has also been suspended."

They didn't specify a reason as to why they were no longer taking western credit cards, but after OnlyFans almost banned porn to appease their financial backers, it's likely due to similar reasons. Currently, the only payment methods that are still supported by DLsite are Japanese ones, e.g. credit card company JCB, prepaid cards from convenient stores such as Family Mart and Lawson, and payment apps like PayPay (not PayPal) and LINe Pay.

There is a workaround for westerners to purchase content from DLsite by first buying points on DLpay (which does accept PayPal), but who knows how long that'll work for? If you've got a wishlist of goods you were planning on buying from DLsite, I'd recommend getting them ASAP before even this gets blocked somehow.
