Remember before the release of Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice upon a Time, where it was advertised as being the literal end of the Evangelion series? And the movie's climax was a fitting end for Shinji and the gang after all they've been through? Turns out, much like the first Rebuild of Evangelion, things aren't turning out like we expected.
We're not gonna get a sequel series about Shinji's adventures in the adult world (yet, at least), but an anime short prequel to the third Rebuild movie, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo. Or an interquel, I guess. Called Evangelion 3.0 (-46h.), the name is similar to a manga called Evangelion: 3.0 (-120min.), which was given out in Japanese theaters during the rerelease of 3.0+1.0. The manga was simply Asuka and Mari having a conversation two hours before the events of 3.0 about their plan to recover Shinji, so going from that, this new anime short willl be set a day and a half before.
The official Eva Twitter account posted three stills from the upcoming short, which'll be included on the Blu-Ray and DVD release of 3.0+1.0 in Japan. These show Asuka wearing a strange visor-like device:
A satellite in space as it all comes tumbling down on Earth:
And the one that's got the most people talking, a mysterious girl who isn't Asuka, Rei, Mari, Misato or any of the series' other established waifus.
She doesn't look like a pilot, so maybe she'll be the focal character of this short, which may show how regular people live in this world like the farmers in 3.0+1.0. Or maybe she's an alternate version of an existing character? Whatever she is, the short could finally shed some light on the 14 year timeskip between 2.0 and 3.0, and this is a series that knows how to always keep the fans guessing. Usually it's over who's best girl, and things won't get any easier now there's another contender to the title.
Evangelion 3.0 (-46h.) is out March 8 in Japan, and will surely find its way over here soon. Are you ready for more Eva? Who do you think she could be? Where are the lewds? Leave your thoughts below!
