That Time Trump was Almost in Tekken

Say what you will about Donald Trump's presidency, even to this day the man knows how to grab headlines. Even for something he wasn't directly involved in, like this anecdote revealed by Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada.

Tekken 7 had a strange variety of guest fighters. Street Fighter's Akuma and Geese Howard from Fatal Fury kinda made sense since they themselves come from fighting games. Final Fantasy XV's Noctis was a strange choice, though. Then there was Negan from The Walking Dead, which was basically spawned by a joke on Twitter. Speaking of Twitter, Harada revealed that he and fellowTekken designer & translator Micheal Murray once considered adding Trump to the roster:

"Me and Michael Murray were in San Francisco the night Donald Trump won the presidential election. I remember I asked him(Michael),

"If I recall correctly, there is no licensing fee for making character goods or games about the President of the United States, is there? There's a lot of buzz around it, so why don't we put him in the game?"

I was talking about it.

Michael and I had a blast talking about Trump's fighting style and the Rage Arts idea for a moment, then cooled down and sealed the idea.

Why did I seal that idea? Because the driver of the UBER we were in at the time started blasting off at 200 km/h while calling out "FXXX Donald Trump"."

The thing about the POTUS having no licensing fees is legit - during his 4 years, 45 appeared in InuyashikiDevilman Crybaby and the Death Note one-shot Never Complete among others, and he probably never even noticed. It's a shame the Uber driver in this story robbed us out of a good practice dummy, but maybe it was for the best considering all the controversy and copium he's been in embroiled in since he lost to Biden.
