Tekken 8 Almost Didn't Have Jiggle Physics
By Yung Namahage • 3 months ago

I've spoken about Katsuhiro Harada before, who's not only the director of Tekken but is also one of the most based men in gaming. Tekken 8 launches in just a few days, and in the run-up to release Namco Bandai have dropped a ton of trailers and character showcases. Harada, on the other hand, posted a new video on his YouTube channel Harada's Bar, where he interviews himself based on questions from fans. Here's the video in full:

The important part that I want to bring attention to starts about 3 minutes in, where he mentions the programmers snuck UFOs into the background without his knowledge. It turns out that wasn't the only thing they snuck in:

"I don't mean to say this in a sexual way. It's natural for human, when people move, their chest might naturally bounce. I strongly insisted not to incorporate any chest bouncing movement for characters in Tekken. There are chest bouncing in other fighting games. But I said we're going for more serious and stiff approach. I meant it more in the sense of being serious and not literally stiff. Just before finishing up the final version, characters' chest suddenly starts to bounce."

"The programmers and modelers are probably secretly working on it together. With each title, boucing became more natural. The thighs, arms, and other areas with muscles and fat started to sway more naturally with each work. Now it really replicates softness of the body, and looks so real. So I guess it's okay now. Even without being told, there are many in the team who just go ahead and do it on their own. Even thought I tell them not to."

It's a good thing he came around eventually. With classic waifus like Jun, Nina and Asuka plus new girls like Azucena and Reina, we'll be able to enjoy their anatomies in great detail as they face off against each other.

Tekken 8 is out January 26. Are you getting it? Are you excited to see the jiggle physics Harada initially disapproved of in action? Let us know in the comments!
