SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos Promo Art Censored For Some Reason
By Yung Namahage • 5 months ago

The 2003 crossover fighting game SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos recently saw a rerelease on Switch, PC, PS4 and PS5, and much like the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, it was promoted with a brand new piece of promotional artwork featuring characters from both companies squaring off against each other. However, the version of the artwork shown in the English version of the trailer has some notable differences to the one in the Japanese trailer. Here they are for comparison:

Japanese artwork

Western artwork

At the front of the image, SNK heroine Athena's battle bikini body has been cropped out of the image, and even more glaringly, her fellow SNK waifu Mai Shiranui, who has some of the most famous tiddies in the world of fighting games, has had her cleavage covered up unnecessarily. Other than those 2 stark examples, the artwork is pretty much identical.

SNK haven't disclosed why they used different artwork for different regions, and I believe they're unlikely to. But bear in mind SNK are almost completely owned by a Saudi Arabian prince and it starts to make sense. Always follow the money.
