Since its release about 12 years ago, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has remained one of the most popular games of all time, especially when it comes to mods. From general quality of life changes to complete game overhauls, there's something for everyone, especially when it comes to porn mods. For a long time, Skyrim porn mods have stayed in their own relatively niche corner, but some of the latest mods have caused an outcry among modders and voice actors alike.
Some of the most recent mods take advantage of AI to change characters' voice lines or add new ones. By training the AI on characters' original voice lines, it's possible to create audio deepfakes that replicate the performance their voice actors initially gave. Deepfakes are a pretty hot topic anyhow, both in video and audio, among artists that use their face or voice as their medium, but porn deepfakes cross another line entirely.
Twitter user Robbie made a post decrying the use of voice actors' work being used without their knowledge or consent to create explicit material, particularly in mods made by ElevenLabs, and listed some of the voice actors' who've been affected. He also urges people, especially the voice actors, to get in touch with Bethesda, their parent company Zenimax, to try and get their support, and mod platform Nexus to see if the offending mods can be removed. He also compiled a list of said mods and which voice actor they deepfake.
For now, Nexus has no problem with mods that use AI, but it'll be interesting to see if they take action against AI-made porn mods after a number of the affected voice artists have come forward to denounce deepfakes. Using voice synthesis to make it sound like an actor/voice actor/celebrity/politician is rapping or gaming or whatever is one thing, but using their image or voice in porn is taking things too far.
What do you guys think of this debacle? Are deepfake porn mods that replicate voice actors' voices immoral? Leave your thoughts below!
