Stop whatever you're doing right now and play the free Chainsaw Demo for the Resident Evil 4 remake on your gaming platform of choice. I don't know how it was possible for Capcom to reinvent the most single most adored entry in the franchise while still pleasing fans of the original, but they've done it. Even the most hardcore RE4 lovers are preparing for the full release later this month by speedrunning the demo or attempting the hidden nightmare difficulty mode. If Capcom put this much thought into the demo, the rest of the game has got to be pretty damn special.
Some fans have even gotten to work on releasing mods for the demo alone. Wanna play as Leon in a maid dress? Sure. Wanna replace Leon with Dante from Devil May Cry? Go ahead. How about replacing Leon's pistol with a banana and his knife with a comically large spoon? Of course, there's a mod for that.
I wasn't kidding
Beyond the simple model swaps are mods that allow you to explore out-of-bounds areas within the village as well as getting rid of the church bell that signals the infected villagers to leave for bingo, letting you murder ganando to your heart's content, and finally making the aforementioned Mad Chainsaw nightmare difficulty mode readily available without resorting to RNG.
If the mod community are going this hard already, I for one can't wait to see what they do with Ashley. More than that, I'm looking forward to seeing how much retconning and sequel baiting will be in the final release. Will they set up a RE5 remake to the same standard eventually? I guess we'll find out on March 24.
