One of the Gayest Games of All Time is Coming to Switch
By Yung Namahage • 1 month ago

A long, long time ago, I remember going down a rabbithole involving a series of games about hairless buff guys firing protein beams from their bald heads at bizarre, homoerotic aliens while hitting bodybuilding poses. That's about the best way I can describe Cho Aniki, a series of shoot-em-ups by Masaya that began back in 1992; it's one of those things you gotta see to believe.

The series flew under the radar of most people even in its heyday, and ever since 2009's Cho Aniki Zero for PSP we've only had a couple of mobile spin-offs. Now some of the original games are set to come over to Nintendo Switch for the first time, bringing the series to modern audiences.

Extreme, who obtain the rights to the series as well as other Masaya and NCS Corp trademarks in 2009, have launched a campaign on Japanese crowdfunding website Makuake for Cho Aniki Collection. This is set to bring the original 1992 Cho Aniki plus the 1995 sequel Ai Cho Aniki based on the TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine ports.

Not much else is known about Cho Aniki Collection just yet, but I'm hoping it'll be coming to other platforms and not just the Switch. But that begs the question, is the world ready for more Cho Aniki? How will it affect today's increasingly volatile political climate? Would it be considered woke because of how overtly gay it is, or based because of how few women are featured? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Have you come across Cho Aniki before? Are you excited to see it come to Switch? Sound off below!
