Mortal Kombat 1's Switch Version Gets Fatal Reviews
By WakeUpSnooze • 7 months ago

Mortal Kombat 1 is here to rejuvenate the series, and it must be working to some extent. A good bit of my friends are checking it out and I see it trending a bunch on places like YouTube and X. Unfortunately, not every trend is a positive one, and in particular the Switch version of this game has been getting absolutely blasted. We all know the Switch isn’t exactly a powerhouse when compared to the other current consoles. Fans are clawing for leaks as hopes for a Switch 2 that addresses its blatant lack of performance capabilities reach new heights. In case you weren’t sure why players are dying for the internal components to be upgraded, here are some comparisons that show the lackluster visuals of the port.

I’m not really a graphics stickler myself, until just recently I’ve been playing most of my games on a budget graphics card from 2013, but even I see the blatant failure of the Switch to keep up. I mean we’re out here with worse models and environments than third-party made porn animations of Mortal Kombat characters. The graphics are so glitchy and buggy that some players have reported certain moves being hard to decipher and play around, which in a competitive fighting game, is a death sentence. The price tag here remains a staple $70 which fans are arguing is a complete ripoff. Nobody wants to pay a normal price to get an inferior version of the game. In my opinion, Nintendo should have never released a Switch port for this game in the first place. Clearly the device doesn’t have the power needed to deliver a solid experience for the game, and it doesn’t exactly fit with Nintendo’s brand enough that they really should feel pressured to release a Switch version of it. I’m not sure who saw these visuals and thought “eh just release it, MK fans will be calm and understanding” but I’m afraid they had some oversights in the boardroom meeting.

I’m still too busy with Street Fighter 6 to dive into MK, but I hope it turns out to be a strong entry in the series that the fans love. The non-Switch fans I mean, obviously that ship has sailed. Are you planning on picking up Mortal Kombat 1? Do you already have the game, and if so what version? Should this have even been released on Switch in the first place?
