Mortal Kombat 1 Revives Forgotten Demon Waifus

Between Tekken 8Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1, the fighting game community has been and will continue to be eating good. Not only are each bringing new mechanics and twists into their respective series, they all indulge in the greatest fanservice of all: bringing back fan favorite characters that haven't appeared in years.

The latest MK! trailer brings back a few familiar faces, some of whom haven't been playable in a Mortal Kombat for over a decade. First up is Reptile, the first secret boss in fighting game history who's now able to shapeshift between his humanoid ninja form and a scalie monster form at will. The other two come from the 3D era, both debuting in Deception - self-mutilating madman Havik and Ashrah, the demon with a heart of gold. I know the MK1 iteration of Tanya hasn't gotten over well among a certain type of gamer, but I have no problem with redesigns. And while new Ashrah does look pretty cool, she's missing a certain something compared to her previous design.

The core aspect of her character is the same, at least. She's a demon who found a magic sword that purifies her soul with each demon she kills, but now she's got an interesting angelic vibe going on. A more subtle and not directly playable old school demon waifu also appears in the trailer as one of the game's many Kameos, looking closer to her classic design.

Introduced in the much-maligned Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero, Sareena was once one of Shinnok's demonic minions that looked like a kung fu goth chick. She was first playable in Tournament Edition, the GBA tie-in to Deadly Alliance. She's had minor appearances as an NPC in a few games, and while she doesn't look to be a fully fledged character in the main roster in MK1, that demon form transformation is pretty sick. Looking forward to the new Sareena demon form R34 soon.

What do you guys think of Sareena and Ashrah? Are you a fan of their new designs or do you prefer their old ones? Let us know in the comments!
