Guilty Gear as a franchise has always been clear about how it's priortized some things above others. In an nutshell, it's always been vibes and gameplay first, while the story takes a backseat. The larger-than-life characters, the bombastic music and presentation, and the surprisingly deep movesets and mechanics are what make it so popular and unique compared to all the other fighting games out there. The story, on the other hand, isn't, and a lot of people were disappointed with what they got in Strive. Maybe, just maybe, the upcoming anime Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers that Snooze has already talked about will make up for it.
At Anime Expo, we got a first look at the upcoming anime with a teaser trailer that showed us a little of what to expect, including the cast and crew. Here it is, without any further ado:
So, uhh, that 3D animation looks kinda cheap, doesn't it? Not exactly a good sign. At least they're keeping the voice actors from the games, at least for Sin Kiske and Sol Badguy, who're still played by Issei Miyazaki and Joji Nakata respectively. We also have Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa from Attack on Titan) as new character Unika, a mysterious girl who hates Gears and plans to kill as many as she can. Last but not least, the series will be narrated by Tomokazu Sugita, who voiced That Man and his duplicate Asuka R♯ in the games, so it's possible That Man could show up in some form.
Anime based on games are very hit & miss, and this is just as likely to end up like the extremely mid Devil May Cry anime as it is Cyberpunk Edgerunners, which expanded on the game it was based on and gave it a whole new audience. Guess we'll have to wait and see, but what do you think so far? Do you think it has potential to add to Guilty Gear lore? Let us know below!
