Over the years, there have been a number of attempts to bring Tekken to the big (or small) screen. The 1998 OVA was kinda fun despite taking a number of liberties from the source material. Then the 2010 live-action was neither fun nor accurate. The less said about its direct-to-DVD sequel Kazuya's Revenge, the better. There was also the 2011 CG movie Blood Vengeance, which sidelined the actual King of Iron Fist Tournament in favor of its own story.
Now the series is getting back to basics with Tekken: Bloodline, a newly announced series that follows Jin Kazama as he trains with his estranged billionaire grandfather Heihachi to avenge his mother's death at the hands of an awakened god, all while learning how to control the ancient evil he inherited from his father. In other words, pretty much the plot of Tekken 3.
So far the trailer has only been released dubbed in English, but as a long-time Tekken fan I'll only be satisfied if every character speaks their own language. One of my favorite things about the games is the way, for example, Jin and his rival Hwoarang will perfectly understand each other even though one is speaking Japanese and the other is speaking Korean. Still, other than the obligatory Netflix CG this looks like it has potential, and even if there are some embellishments (like Leroy being present for the events of Tekken 3 when he was only introduced in Tekken 7 as DLC), I'm willing to overlook those as long as it's entertaining and the action is decent. I expect Paul to hit Death Fists and Kazuya to wavedash, the whole nine yards. And if my boi Yoshimitsu isn't there I'll be pissed.
Tekken: Bloodline is set to release later this year. Do you think it'll be any good? Let us know below!
