First Look at Capcom's Onimusha Anime
By Yung Namahage • 1 year ago

Almost a year since its announcement, it's finally time to take a look at the brand-new anime based on one of Capcom's most underrated series. Quick recap: Onimusha was originally meant to be a Resident Evil spin-off set in feudal Japan before being made inot its own thing, which played like the RE1 remake with less horror, more melee combat and equally goofy voice acting. There hasn't been a proper Onimusha game since the PS2 era, but this anime could hopefully keep the fans satisfied until they decide to make a new one.

The games generally follow samurai slaying demons while armed with a magic gauntlet that absorbs their demonic essence. This time, the samurai in question is none other than Miyamoto Musashi, probably the most famous samurai in history. Musashi is voiced by Akio Otsuka, who's also known for voicing All For One in My Hero Academia and the Japanese dub of Solid Snake and Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid among others, while his likeness is based on frequent Akira Kurosawa star Toshiro Mifune.

Studio Sublimation are producing the series, which is being directed by Dragon's Dogma director Shinya Sugai, while prestigious director Takashi Miike is serving as supervising director. The theme song is The Loneliest by Italian band Måneskin, and the soundtrack is composed by Miike collaborator Koji Endo. If you asked me they should've got Hotei on the soundtrack because his song they used as the theme for Onimusha 2 is straight flames.

Onimusha hits Netflix November 2. Will you be checking it out? What do you think of the trailer? Have you played any of the games, and if so are you also hoping the Golden EVIL Statue will make an appearance somehow? Let us know below!
