Fast & Furious Star Driving Initial D Live-Action

Usually, most manga & anime series chosen by Hollywood to adapt into live-action tend to be the type to be packed with action and elaborate fight scenes. Dragonball Evolution, Battle Angel AlitaSaint Seiya, etc, but Initial D is known by most people for two things and two things only: dudes racing cars and a hype Eurobeat soundtrack. There was already a live-action Japanese/Hong Kong Initial D live-action in 2005, which changed a fair bit from the source material and came out to middling reviews, but now Hollywood are putting their hands on the steering wheel.

There aren't many details about the upcoming project at the minute, but we do know it'll be directed by actor-cum-director Sung Kang, known for playing Han in the Fast & Furious series. He told the South China Morning Post: “It’s about cars and drifting and cool things like that. Almost a Rocky or Karate Kid. A fun, big-budget movie that expresses my love affair for cars.”

People joke about how the Fast & Furious movies used to be about car racing, but now that particular franshice is about pretty much everything but car racing it seems like the perfect time for a movie to fill that gap. No bullshit, no melodrama, just fast cars and 90s beats. Surely Hollywood can't fuck that up, right? Right!?

Are you guys into the idea of a live-action Initial D? Have you seen the 2005 one? Sound off below!
