Dungeon Travelers is Too Spicy for Steam

We all know Steam has tons of H-games already, ranging from decent games with the bonus nude fanservice to straight shovelware that think titties will fool people into buying it. Now and then comes a game that's flat out rejected by Valve for being too lewd, and sadly, Dungeon Travelers 2 and its sequel are examples of this.

Dungeon Travelers is a confusingly numbered ecchi dungeon-crawling series published in Japan by Aquaplus that originally span off from their To Heart VN series, beginning with the isekai To Heart 2: Dungeon Travelers, which also had an anime and manga adaptation. Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library & the Monster Seal was originally released on PSP in 2013, but the only version released outside Japan was a PS Vita (remember that?) port published by Atlus that was controversially censored to recieve an ESRB Mature rating instead of the dreaded Adults Only. Its 2017 sequel, Dungeon Travelers 2-2: The Fallen Maidens & the Book of Beginnings, never saw the light of day outside Japan, but when its PC port was announced fans were looking forward to playing it in HD, along with an uncensored version of the previous title.

Unfortunately, localizers Shiravune recently tweeted that neither game will be released on Steam, claiming "Steam’s review made it impossible to pass while keeping the core appeal and high standards we hold for these titles." Most lewd games are released "censored" on Steam and require a patch to unlock the good shit, but it doesn't seem like that was an option here. At least there's a silver lining: both Dungeon Travelers have English translated PC ports available on Johren, but then you have to deal with their pain-in-the-ass DRM. You gotta do what you gotta do, I guess.

What do you guys think of this? Have you played Dungeon Travelers before? Did Shiravune make the right move in not compromising the games for Steam and releasing on Johren instead? Sound off in the comments!
