A few years ago we received a slew of requests to play and review several visual novel (VN) games of the lewd variety. That was pre-COVID and I guess there was more money to go around back then as lately no requests have come in. Thinking on that fact made me realize I haven’t touched a single visual novel since being asked to for work and wondering why the fuck that is considering I enjoyed several VNs I investigated during that period.
Overall it probably comes down to the time and effort investment required versus more traditional fapping material like hentai. With hentai you head to a website (or browse to your local collection), select an episode, and boom you’re off to the races. It’s pretty much the same process for live action porn or doujins too. Plus, a hentai episode is going to be about twenty minutes in length for standard productions so even if you decide to stay around and watch the whole thing, you know how much time you’re in for. With an adult VN, if it’s a quality product, twenty minutes may just involve finding the game, downloading it, adjusting the settings, and making it past the intro. In my time I was asked to review some naughty VNs that stretched several hours of gameplay with tons of unlockable sex scenes and sometimes minigames. Many even required multiple playthroughs to see everything the experience had to offer. It was awesome to have so much content on the table… but as I get older and time gets thinner, I find myself hunting for quick faps more often than not. I don't have the sexual energy or free moments to spend digging through a deep storyline with a ton of rare kinks in the name of pleasure. I’ll take a quick dive into the latest month’s hentai episodes and call it a day.
