Devil May Cry Gets Stylish New Anime Adaptation

Remember when Netflix announced they were working on a Devil May Cry anime all those years ago? I think most people forgot about it, until this teaser dropped out of the blue.

It's brief, but so far so good - the animation is fluid, the music is fittingly edgy and Dante is his goofy self. The project is a collaboration between Dota: Dragon's Blood's Studio Mir and Castelvania anime creator Adi Shankar, himself a big fan of the games who says he wants to do them justice. Yasuke writer Alex Larsen will be writing the scripts, and there are 8 episodes planned for the first season. Furthermore, Hideaki Itsuno, who directed most of the games, is supervising the series.

There aren't many more details on the series at the minute, but some fans might be disappointed to learn that Reuben Langdon, who's voiced Dante since DMC3 in 2005, was not asked to reprise the role in the anime. Hopefully whoever's replacing him is a good fit for the wacky woohoo pizza man.

The series had a 12-episode anime back in 2007 that was set between the events of the first 2 games. It wasn't very good, but still somewhat canon since a few characters carried over into DMCV. Then again, Capcom literally had to rearrange the canon timeline of the games before V, so continuity isn't exactly this series' strong point.
