Death Penalty Requested for Kyoto Animation Arsonist

There's a lot of pain and suffering in the world right now, and we want Doujins and Hentai0 to be an escape from all that bullshit, a place where you can forget about all that and get your rocks off. We don't usually get too heavy on our blogs, but the Kyoto Animation arson incident 4 years ago is one of the biggest tragedies in the anime world, and there's been an important development in that case as of late.

On 18 July 2019, an unnemployed 40 year old man named Shinji Aoba walked into the building where Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid and K-On! studio was based in Kyoto, and proceeded to douse the place, as well as himself and nearby employees, in gasoline, then set it on fire with a lighter. His motive was that he believed the studio plagiarized novels he wrote that he sent to the studio as part of a contest, and he was responsible for 36 deaths and 32 injuries that day, excluding himself. It took Aoba over a year before he recovered enough to be arrested and tried for his crimes, which has been a long and arduous process since.

The main trial at Kyoto District Court began on September 5, with 32 hearings scheduled until this month. Prosecuters recently argued that while he may have been delusional, he understood the dangers and implications of setting a building on fire and entered the KyoAni office with intent to kill. And for that, he deserves the highest punishment imaginable: the death penalty. Capital punishment is given to mass murderers in Japan, so it's possible he'll be sentenced to death by hanging depending on the verdict.

The verdict to the trial and Aoba's sentence will be given on January 25. Hopefully the survivors and families of victims will be able to get closure and put this tragedy behind them.
