Ever since it was first revealed, fans of the original Dead Rising were worried that the upcoming Deluxe Remaster made using the RE Engine would be missing a few elements from the 2006 game. The gameplay previews we've seen so far already confirm a few changes, such as the whitewashing of a boss that was originally something of a yellow peril Asian stereotype, but there were also concerns over whether or not the remaster would include the Erotica bonus that awards you with extra PP (prestige points, that is) for snapping sexy photos of survivors.
An article by Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu about the upcoming remaster details returning features, skills and characters, as well as some of the new quality-of-life updates, like radio calls no longer being interrupted when you take damage. Notably, the section about the core photography mechanic describes how Frank's camera has been improved with additional settings and filters, but also states players will no longer be rewarded the Erotica bonus for titilating photos.
This could have implications toward some of the side missions, namely the one where survivor Cheryl Jones (whose outfit has been slightly changed in the remaster) asks Frank to take some glamor shots of her amid the zombie apocalypse in Willamette Parkview Mall. Capcom haven't confirmed a reason for the change yet, but it's likely due to changing attitudes both in the east and west since the game was first released 18 years ago. Of course, fans will be disappointed, but luckily the original version of Dead Rising is still available for purchase on modern gen consoles and PC.
What do you guys think of this change? Does it put you off buying the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster when it drops on September 19? Sound off in the comments!
