As AI gets increasingly advanced, it's getting more difficult by the day to tell if someone's real. Then again, sometimes real people are so difficult to deal with you'd rather make a whole new person with the help of AI, as is the case with a Spanish agency that's been doing the rounds online lately.
This is Aitana López, a 25-year-old gamer girl from Barcelona who happens to be one of the hottest influencers in Europe. She also doesn't exist. Aitana was created by a modelling agency called The Clueless to make up for the unpredictability of flesh and blood models. The Clueless founder Rubeñ Cruz said: "We started analyzing how we were working and realized that many projects were being put on hold or canceled due to problems beyond our control. Often it was the fault of the influencer or model and not due to design issues. We did it so that we could make a better living and not be dependent on other people who have egos, who have manias, or who just want to make a lot of money by posing."
Created using AI and Photoshop, Aitana helps The Clueless save on wardrobe costs, logistics, and other issues. She makes an average of €1,000 per advert, or about US$1,076, and rakes in roughly €3,000 to €10,000 a month. In addition to modelling and brand deals, she posts lewds on Fanvue, an OnlyFans-like subscription platform.
Aitana is far from the first AI influencer and definitely won't be the last, but she's the latest in an increasingly popular phenomenon that isn't without its critics. Some say this kind of thing takes jobs from real people who may be struggling, and ensuring the money ends up in the hands in big brands instead, or it's pushing the kind of idealistic beauty standards other models have been fighting against these last few decades.
